STEVE STOLIAR on HOLLYWOOD’S HIDDEN TREASURES: THE MARX BROTHERS 7/22/25

This is a round-table discussion on the lives and careers of The Marx Brothers, moderated by Donelle Dodegan, as part of her HOLLYWOOD’S HIDDEN TREASURES show on KABC radio in Los Angeles.

In addition to myself, Bill Marx (Harpo’s oldest son), Jade Marx (Groucho’s granddaughter), Gregg Marx (Gummo’s grandson) and a few Marx scholars share stories, memories, and comments about The Five Marx Brothers.

This was meant as a lead-in to the opening of the Legends of Laughter: The Marx Brothers exhibition at The Hollywood Museum.

MARX BROTHERS CELEBRATION at THE HOLLYWOOD MUSEUM 7/17/25

I recently took part in a splendiferous celebration of The Marx Brothers at The Hollywood Museum (Hollywood & Highland). In addition to seeing all the goodies on display, it was great reconnecting with Bill Marx (Harpo’s 88-year-old adopted son), who was one of my favorite people during my Groucho years. I also got to spend time with Jade Marx (Groucho’s granddaughter and Melinda’s daughter), which was something of a mind-blower. One of my first official acts when I started working at Groucho’s in 1974 was witnessing a codicile to Groucho’s will because Jade had just been born and Groucho wanted to include her. Now she’s fifty.

Here’s a write-up, with some photos, about the event, plus photos of Gummo’s grandson, Gregg, and Jade and me – and a couple of shots of me regaling the audience with tales of Marx:

TALES FROM HOLLYWOODLAND Podcast – 5/6/25

Here’s a “Tales From Hollywoodland” podcast wherein I’m interviewed by producers/film historians Julian Schlossberg, Steven Jay Rubin and Arthur Friedman. We discuss my Groucho years – of course – but also Dick Cavett, Woody Allen and my TV writing. I even do a few impressions, including – but not limited to – Ralph Bellamy, Ray Milland, and Howard da Silva (Oh no – not another Howard da Silva impression!).

STEVE STOLIAR on “The Avrum Rosensweig Show” With JULIAN SCHLOSSBERG And PAUL SALTZMAN (3/10/25)

Once again, the eminent Avrum Rosensweig (as opposed to all them other Avrum Rosensweigs) has deemed me worthy of appearing on his podcast. This time, I am in excellent and impressive company: Producer/director/documentarian Paul Saltzman and film/theatrical producer/film historian Julian Schlossberg. Our conversation covers quite a bit of terrain, including – but not limited to – childhood moviegoing experiences, family dynamics, films that left their mark on us, Woody Allen, Jewishness, and lots of other stuff.

STEVE STOLIAR on “The Avrum Rosensweig Show” Discussing SALAMIS & SWASTIKAS: LETTERS HOME FROM A G.I. JEW 12/7/24

Here’s another podcast I did with Avrum Rosensweig, only this time, it’s (almost) all about the book of my father’s wartime letters, SALAMIS & SWASTIKAS: LETTERS HOME FROM A G.I. JEW. We discuss the war, my father’s travels, the home front, the experience of being a secular Jew fighting the Nazis, his frustration at not being home to watch his toddler daughter growing up, etc. Along the way, he has numerous side adventures with various townspeople and fellow soldiers, plus thumbnail reviews of then-current movies and songs. Despite the dark subject, Avrum and I still manage to have a lot of fun along the way discussing my father’s letters.
